"I resent that! Slander is spoken. In print, it's libel."

Daily Bugle

The Daily Bugle is a New York City newspaper. The paper is intended to be a pastiche of both the New York Daily News and the New York Post, two popular real-life New York City tabloids. Its rival publisher is The Daily Globe which was never seen in the movies.

History[]

In June 1968, After J. Jonah Jameson finished high school his dad gave him enough money to start his own business, eventually after he became the chief editor of The Daily Bugle during The Daily Bugles early days it was rivals with The Daily Globe they competed with each other during the 1970s and 80s.

In 2002, The Bugle first features with Peter Parker selling pictures of himself as Spider-Man to chief editor J. Jonah Jameson, who declares Spider-Man as a menace to the whole city and tries his best to de-fame him. The Bugle is later attacked by The Green Goblin who threatens Jameson and demands he reveal who Spider-Man is. Jameson told him he didn't know so The Green Goblin asked him to at least reveal who was taking photos of him for the paper. Jameson refused, putting his own life at risk to save Peter's. He passes out and Spider-Man attacks The Green Goblin and saved Jameson, but was captured by The Green Goblin as a result.

In 2004,  After Peter briefly gave up his life as Spider-Man, a trash collector brings Spider-Man's discarded costume to sell at The Daily Bugle. Jameson takes credit for Spider-Man's disappearance, but later admits that he blamed himself for droves Spider-Man away for good, saying Spider-Man was indeed a hero, and the only person capable of stopping Doctor Octopus. Doctor Octopus later finds Peter and tells him to find Spider-Man, kidnapping Mary Jane in the process. Following this, Peter finds that his powers have been restored, and he dons his costume again after stealing it back from the Bugle. A furious Jameson continues to denounce Spider-Man as a menace.

After being fired from his previous job at the The Daily Globe, Eddie Brock tries to sell photos freelance at the Bugle, much to Peter's displeasure. Jameson sets Eddie and Peter up as rival contenders to earn a staff job, instructing them to obtain unflattering pictures of Spider-Man. Under the symbiote's influence, Peter exposes Eddie Brock for submitting doctored photograph showing Spider-Man as a thief. Enraged at Brock, Jameson fired him and put out a retraction, their first in 20 years.
