George Stacy is a fictional character who appears in the works published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by Stan Lee, John Romita, Sr., and Don Heck in 1968. He was portrayed by James Cromwell in the 2007 film Spider-Man 3.

History

Spider-Man 3

In his late 60s or early 70s, born in the 1930s or 1940s, is a captain in the New York Police Department. He is the father of Gwen Stacy, unbeknownst to both her lab partner at university, Peter Parker and her one night fling Eddie Brock. Despite being a badge-wearing police officer, he is indeed an admirer of Spider-Man. This is shown when he acts with great relief and gratitude after Spider-Man saves Gwen from falling from a building. The event leads to Spider-Man being awarded the key to the city.

Captain Stacy would later inform both Peter and Aunt May that Flint Marko was, in fact, the real killer of Uncle Ben, rather than Dennis Carradine, as was first suspected. He tried in vain to comfort Aunt May and calm an angry Peter, who leaves in a rage to hunt Marko down. George and Gwen later are in attendance at Harry Osborn's funeral.

Spider-Man 4

In May 2007 James Cromwell stated he thought the natural progression for the character would be for both he and Gwen Stacy to die early in Spider-Man 4 mirroring the comics. Bryce Dallas Howard said her character's death would not have bothered her. The film was ultimately unmade, despite both characters making the draft.
